Using decor to calm your mind

Posted on November 26, 2021November 26, 2021 by changinglanes

If you are feeling stressed, or you have anxiety over something, often one of the first places you will retreat to is your bedroom.  You generally feel safe there, and you have things around you that will make you comfortable.  However, if your room is not decorated in a calming way, you could actually feel worse.  Here we talk about some easy ways to use décor to calm your mind. A room can be decorated in many different ways to make you feel a certain way, but what about the decorations themselves? Decorations are sources of positive thoughts, so by decorating your room with calming decorations, you can promote calm thoughts.

There are a lot of ways to decorate your room to have a calming effect. You can try using calming colours or patterns. Some colours are better suited for calming people down. These colours include blue, green, purple and pink.
These colours help to relax people because they stimulate the vagal nerve in the brain. This helps to release serotonin which in turn helps to lower anxiety levels.  Don’t overdo it though – pick one colour and perhaps do a feature wall, and then use another colour for your accessories.

The placement of certain items in a room can create a desired effect for some people. Feng shui is an ancient art that is often used in interior design. It is the study and use of natural energy and how it affects the environment and humans. The placement of some items like mirrors, furniture, lighting, etc. will change the energy in a given space and make it feel more welcoming or calm to some people.

Some people might think that you need to be a Feng Shui expert to implement these ideas, but this is not necessarily true. There are many ways to get started so you can start achieving the feelings of harmony and balance in your life.

The first thing you should do is take a look at your spaces and determine if they have good feng shui qualities. For instance, how much light is there? What direction does the sunlight come from? How does it flow through the room? Does the floor plan provide a sense of movement? Is it easy to move around in each room?

Use accessories to build a calm environment too.  Try a gorgeous white fluffy rug on wood flooring for a luxury, calming effect.  Add candles and flowers to make the room as relaxing as you can.
