Planning a wedding

Posted on February 7, 2023February 28, 2023 by changinglanes

Planning a wedding can be an overwhelming task, but it doesn’t have to be. With the right guidance and a little bit of organisation, you can make this special day one to remember. To get started, you’ll need to decide on your budget and figure out what kind of venue you’d like for your wedding. From there, you can move on to other important details such as selecting a caterer or deciding on decorations. Once you’ve established these basics, the rest of the planning process will become much easier. With careful planning and attention to detail, your wedding day will be one that everyone will remember for years to come!

Set the budget

Always start here.  Weddings are expensive, as soon as you mention the word bride, a zero is added to the price – at least!  Decide how much you can afford, and stick to it.

Wedding theme

Weddings are one of the most important and special days in a person’s life, so it’s no surprise that couples want to make sure their wedding is perfect. One way to make sure your wedding is unique and memorable is by choosing a theme. There are countless wedding theme ideas out there, ranging from rustic barnyard weddings to glamorous black-tie affairs. No matter what kind of style you’re looking for, there’s a theme that will fit perfectly with your vision. From classic white weddings to modern bohemian themes, you can find something that will make your special day even more special.  Make a mood board or Pinterest board that will help you realise what sort of themes you both love.

Venue

When you’ve picked your theme, pick your venue.  If you want a country style barn dance, then you won’t want to pick a posh stately home as your venue.  Make sure to ask all the questions you need to know answers to, make a list before you visit.  Always be cheeky and ask for discounts – venues are often cheaper on weekdays, for example.

Dress

Picking the perfect wedding dress is one of the most important and exciting decisions you will make for your big day. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to express your personal style and create a lasting memory that you can cherish for years to come. With so many options available, it can be difficult to know where to start when it comes to selecting the ideal dress for your special day. Here are some tips on how to pick a wedding dress that will make you look and feel your best on your special day.

First of all, think about your perfect dress – what does it look like?  Don’t worry about budget yet – you can often get some great bargains if you look hard enough.  Check out websites like Prom Dress Finder for different styles of dress – do you want a long straight column dress, or a fluffy meringue?  Or perhaps something in between,?

Entertainment

This part of the wedding should be a reasonable part of your budget, but does depend on your guests.  There is no point in hiring a karaoke machine or having a huge disco if you know your guest would prefer a lovely string quartet.  Pick out some ideas to make the guests day go with a bang – a table magician, or a singer while the photo’s are being taken.

Photographs

Pick the best photographer you can for your budget.  Keep your eye out for fledgling photographers that might give you a discount in return for the practice.  Wedding photos are kept for life, so you want lovely ones – but often the best are the photos that you don’t see, the ones that the guests take.  Ask them to share them with you, by using an app called  Wedding Photo Swap.  This allows guest to take photos and upload them to your own personal space, so you can keep them forever. You can even start at the hen and stag nights (if you want to!!)  This allows your guests to really share in the day with you, and you get to see everything that has happened.  You can even download them or order prints to frame or add to your wedding album.
